SNAPSHOT AT 30

After turning 30 in May this year I took some time to look through my ever growing archive of photographs. I’ve been making pots for 5 years now, give or take, and for the last 2 of those I’ve had a fully equipped studio and have been really focusing on making work that I feel is worthwhile. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the daily grind of making, concentrating on what’s not up to scratch or what’s happening too slowly. With that tendency for being overly self critical humming away in the background, I was really pleasantly surprised by the sense of pride and satisfaction I felt when looking back at the last few years work.

Although there’s many things that I want to progress and evolve, looking at this snapshot I find myself really pleased with the overall aesthetic of my pots. It’s always at least marginally nerve racking sharing anything you’ve created, but over time I’m slowly growing more confident (or at least I’m giving a few less f**ks) and the more I put out into the world the more my urge to make pots is reinforced. It’s taken what feels like an age, but I can start to feel a style and langauage of my own appearing and I’m getting better at listening to my gut and not worrying about what I should be doing. Nobody ever made good art by trying to please the masses.

The photographs below are mainly of finished pieces and pots in the making. All of them were taken in either my pottery studio or my kiln shed; quite easily my two favourite places to spend the working week. If you have any questions then please feel free to get in touch here and be sure to sign up to my mailing list to be kept up to date with my pots, practice and points of sale. If you’ve found your way to this page, then many thanks for stopping by and having a look at this snapshot in time. Now it’s back to the studio to see if I cant do it all again, but a little bit better.
